Somehow I will always feel a strange connection to the people who were affected by the 11 March Tohoku earthquake in Japan. I was in Kyoto two years ago on that very day. I watched the events of the disaster unfold before my eyes on television—I was too far away to have felt it and Kyoto is fortunately far enough away from the sea. Even two years later there are still too many people still affected by the ensuing tsunami; too many people unable to return to their homes. May the world spare a thought for them.
